Analytics
Read the Quizably dashboard and per-quiz analytics: what each metric counts, time ranges, the CSV export, and how to interpret the numbers.
Quizably shows analytics in two places: the site-wide Dashboard, and an Analytics section at the top of each quiz’s Settings tab. There is no separate Analytics screen.
This page explains exactly what each number counts so you can read it correctly.
How submissions are counted
Quizably creates a submission record as soon as a quiz loads on a page, not when the visitor clicks Start quiz. So a page view that loads a quiz produces one submission, even if the visitor never interacts with it.
Popups and slide-ins work the same way: the quiz loads with the page, even if the visitor never opens it, so each page view that contains one adds an in-progress submission and one view.
A submission is either in progress or completed. There is no separate “abandoned” status. The number shown as “in progress” is simply total submissions minus completed ones.
This matters for every rate below.
Site-wide dashboard
Open Quiz Builder, then Dashboard.
| Tile | What it counts | Time range |
|---|---|---|
| Total quizzes | All quizzes, with a published, draft and archived breakdown | Now |
| Submissions | Completed submissions only | Last 30 days |
| Leads captured | Leads created through forms. Leads still waiting for double opt-in confirmation are not counted | Last 30 days |
| Completion rate | All completed submissions divided by all submissions, across all quizzes | All time |
Two charts sit below the tiles:
- Submissions, last 30 days: completed submissions per day.
- Top quizzes, last 30 days: the five quizzes with the most completed submissions.
The All Quizzes list has a similar row of tiles: Total quizzes, Submissions - 30d, Leads - 30d and Avg completion. The list table also shows Submissions and Completion for each quiz. In the table, Submissions counts all submissions, including in progress, which differs from the dashboard tile that counts completed only.
Note: Date windows use your database server’s clock, while timestamps are stored in UTC. If your database is not set to UTC, the edges of the 30 day window can be off by a few hours.
Per-quiz analytics
Open the quiz, go to the Settings tab and look at the Analytics section. The figures are lifetime totals. There is no date range picker.
| Tile | Definition |
|---|---|
| Submissions | All submissions for the quiz. The hint shows how many are completed and how many are in progress. |
| Completion | Completed divided by all submissions. |
| Leads | Number of leads captured, not counting leads still waiting for double opt-in confirmation. The hint shows the conversion rate: leads divided by completed submissions. |
| Avg score | The average score of completed submissions, rounded to two decimals. Shown only when a score exists, which in practice means trivia quizzes. |
Result distribution
Result distribution lists each result with its count and percentage among completed submissions that have a result. Submissions with no result are ignored. This happens when a personality quiz has no mapped answers, or a trivia score falls in a gap between score bands. Those visitors still see the first result on screen, but they are not counted here. The percentages therefore cover only the submissions that matched.
Questions table
The Questions table has these columns:
| Column | Definition |
|---|---|
| Question | The question text. |
| Reached | For the first question, all completed submissions. For later questions, the number that answered the previous one. |
| Answered | Completed submissions that contain an answer for that question. |
| Drop-off | (Reached minus Answered) divided by Reached. Colored amber at 10% or more and red at 20% or more. |
| Avg time | Average seconds spent on the question, measured until the last change to the answer. |
Expand a row to see the answer distribution: how often each option was chosen, as a count and a percentage. It counts chosen options only. Typed text and ratings do not appear there.
Export analytics as CSV
In the Questions section, select Export CSV. The button appears once question data exists. You get a file named like analytics-<quiz id>-<date>.csv with:
- A summary row with
date,total_views,total_completions,completion_rate_pct,total_leadsandavg_score. Thedateis the day of the export. - A blank line, then one row per question with
question_id,question_title,reached,answered,drop_off_pct,avg_time_msand one count column per answer option.
There is no date range option for the export. To export leads instead, see Leads dashboard.
What is not shown
- Views. Quizably records a view each time the shortcode, block or iFrame page is generated by PHP, but views are not displayed anywhere in the admin. The only place they appear is the
total_viewscolumn of the analytics CSV. The count includes bots and your own visits, and pages served from a page cache are not counted, so treat it as a rough figure. - Visitor source. UTM values are kept with each submission, but they are not summarized. You see them only in the lead detail panel, for visitors who gave an email.
- Device, referrer and average time to finish the whole quiz are not recorded.
- Short text and rating answers are not summarized.
How to interpret the numbers
- Completion rate is not “of those who started”. Because the submission is created on page load, visitors who scrolled past the quiz count as not completing. Expect lower rates than you would get from a start-based measure.
- Drop-off only measures finishers. The Questions table is built from completed submissions only. It shows questions that finishers skipped, for example optional ones. It does not show where people gave up. To find where people leave, look at the gap between Submissions and completed, and test the quiz yourself.
- Lead conversion divides unique leads by completions. A visitor who submits the same email twice for the same quiz counts once, and a lead counts only after it is confirmed when the quiz uses double opt-in. If your form is at Before quiz, leads can exist for visitors who never finished, so the percentage can look higher than you expect.
- Result distribution excludes unmatched visitors. If the percentages look off, check that every answer is mapped or every score range is covered. See Personality results and Trivia scoring.
- Reloads and resumes add submissions. Each page load, and each time a visitor picks Resume, creates another submission. The earlier one stays in progress, which lowers the completion rate.
- Surveys and polls have no scoring, so the result distribution has at most one row. Visitors to a poll do see the vote tally on the result screen. The totals come from completed submissions. See Surveys and polls.
