Surveys and polls
See what visitors get after a survey or poll, why you must add one thank-you result, and where to read the answers that respondents gave.
Survey / Form and Poll / Single question quizzes collect answers. They do not score anything. This page explains what visitors see, how to set up the result screen, and where you can read what people answered.
Surveys and polls work the same way
At runtime a survey and a poll behave identically. The only difference you see in the builder is the name of the results tab: Result for a survey and Tally for a poll.
Neither type scores answers or picks between outcomes. After the visitor finishes, Quizably shows the first result you configured, and only that one.
A poll is not limited to one question. You can add as many questions as you like.
Add one result for your own thank-you screen
Add one result to a survey or poll to control what the visitor reads at the end.
- Open the quiz and go to the Result tab (survey) or Tally tab (poll).
- Click Add the thank-you screen.
- Fill in a title and some content, such as “Thanks for your feedback”.
- Optionally add an image, a button with a label and link, or a redirect.
The builder allows only one result for these types. Once you have one, the button becomes Single result and is disabled, with the message “Surveys and polls only need one result screen.”
Note: If a survey has no result, the visitor still ends on a built-in thank-you screen: “Thank you”, “Your response has been recorded.”, “We appreciate you taking the time. You can close this window.” and a Take again button. Add your own result if you want your own wording, image or button. A poll with no result ends on the poll results screen, headed “Thanks for voting”.
What the visitor sees
After answering the last question, the visitor sees:
- The label “Your result”.
- Your result’s title. If you leave the title empty, the text “Thanks!” is shown.
- Your result’s content, image, button and share buttons, if you set them.
- A Retake quiz button.
There is no score line, because only trivia shows one. A survey does not show other people’s answers.
Poll results
A poll also shows how everyone voted. The eyebrow reads “Poll results”, and under your result each option shows its percentage, a bar, its vote count and a Your vote tag on the visitor’s own pick. A line at the bottom shows the total, for example “12 votes in total”. While the tally loads the visitor sees “Loading results…”, and if it cannot be loaded, “Results are not available right now.”
Things to know about the tally:
- It counts completed submissions only, for the poll’s first question. A multiple-choice poll counts every option a visitor ticked.
- It is cached for 20 seconds, and the cache is cleared whenever a vote completes, so a visitor sees their own vote straight away.
- There is no one-vote-per-person limit. Every completed run counts, including a retake.
- The data comes from
GET /wp-json/quizably/v1/public/quiz/{uuid}/poll-results. See the REST API reference.
If you would rather send people to another page, use Auto-redirect on the result. See The Results tab and result screens.
How answers are stored
Each answer is saved with the visitor’s submission every time it changes, and the latest value wins. What is saved depends on the question type:
| Question type | What is stored |
|---|---|
| Single choice, True / False, Dropdown | The chosen option |
| Multiple choice | Every ticked option |
| Short text | The typed text, trimmed, with HTML tags removed, and cut to 2000 characters at most |
| Rating | The number the visitor picked |
For short text, the limit you set on the question (Max characters, default 500) applies in the form. The server never stores more than 2000 characters.
A submission also records how long the visitor spent on each question, based on when they last changed the answer.
Where you can see the answers
There is one place in the admin to read individual answers.
- Go to Quiz Builder, then Leads.
- Click a lead’s row, or use View submission detail.
- In the Lead detail panel, scroll to Answers.
For each answer you see the question, the question type, the typed text in quotes or the chosen options, and the time spent.
Two limits apply:
- Only respondents who gave you a lead appear here. Answers from visitors who did not fill in the lead form cannot be read per person. Poll totals and Analytics answer distribution still include them. To read a survey’s answers one by one, set up the lead form. See The lead capture form.
- The panel shows the lead’s latest completed submission. If the same person took the quiz several times, you see the most recent finished run.
What is not included
| Place | Includes answers? |
|---|---|
| Leads CSV export | Yes. One column per question, with the chosen option labels (joined with ”; ”) or the typed text or rating. Leads only |
| Analytics answer distribution | Counts chosen options only. Typed text and ratings do not appear |
| Webhook payload | No. It has the quiz, result, score, breakdown and lead details |
| Email notifications | No. You can use tokens such as the lead’s name and email, but not answers |
To get answers into a spreadsheet, use Export CSV on the Leads screen. See The Leads dashboard.
Tips for useful surveys
- Turn on the lead form at the End of quiz and leave the Optional form setting on Yes if you want to collect answers from people who do not want to share an email. Those people will not have per-person answers in the admin, though.
- Mark only the questions you truly need as required. Questions are required by default, and visitors must answer them to continue.
- Use a rating question for quick satisfaction checks and a short text question for open comments.
