Create a new quiz

Step through the New quiz flow: start from a ready-made quiz or from blank, choose type and template, name it, then use the builder tabs and publish.

You can create a quiz from a ready-made starter quiz or from a blank one. This page covers both paths, the builder tabs for each type, and how publishing works.

Open the New quiz flow

Click New quiz on the Dashboard or on the All Quizzes screen. A New quiz window opens with the heading “How do you want to start?” and two cards.

CardUse it when
Choose a TemplateYou want a ready-made quiz with real questions, results and content
Start BlankYou want to pick a type and template, then write everything yourself

Path A: Choose a Template

  1. Click Choose a Template (“Browse templates”).
  2. Use the Type filter (All, Personality, Trivia, Survey, Poll) and the Template filter (All, Classic, Minimal, Full Screen, Conversational) to narrow the gallery. Each card shows the title, description, type, template and number of questions (“N Qs”).
  3. Click a card, then click Use this template.
  4. Under “Name your quiz”, edit the Quiz title and Slug.
  5. Click Create quiz.

The new quiz arrives with its questions and results already in place, and it is published. Edit the content to make it yours. You can also preview options on the templates page.

Path B: Start Blank

The blank path has three steps, labeled Type, Template and Details. Use Back, Cancel and Next to move around.

Step 1: Type

Choose what kind of quiz you are building.

TypeDescription shown
Personality / ResultWhich X are you? Answers map to results.
Trivia / Score-basedRight/wrong questions with a final score.
Survey / FormCollect responses, show a tailored result.
Poll / Single questionOne question, one result screen.

The type determines how results are calculated, and it cannot be changed after the quiz is created. See Quiz types before you choose.

Step 2: Template

Pick a starting design: Classic, Minimal, Full Screen or Conversational. Colors, fonts and layout can all be edited afterward in the design drawer, and you can switch templates later. See Design and backgrounds.

Step 3: Details

FieldRules
Quiz titleRequired, at least 2 characters
SlugLowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, at least 2 characters. It fills in from the title. Must be unique.

If the slug is taken you see “Slug already in use - try: -2”. Click Create quiz to finish.

What happens next

A “Quiz created” message appears and you land on the Questions tab of the builder. The quiz is Published straight away, but a quiz with no questions has nothing to show. Finish building before you embed it.

The builder tabs

The builder opens full screen. The tabs depend on the type, and Next in the top bar walks through them in order. Next saves first, and stays on the current tab if the save fails.

TypeTabs in order
PersonalityOverview, Results, Questions, Intro, Form, Integrations, Settings, Summary
TriviaOverview, Questions, Score bands, Intro, Form, Integrations, Settings, Summary
SurveyOverview, Questions, Result, Intro, Form, Integrations, Settings, Summary
PollOverview, Questions, Tally, Intro, Form, Integrations, Settings, Summary

What each tab is for:

  • Overview: a short explainer for the quiz type with tips.
  • Results / Score bands / Result / Tally: what visitors see at the end. See Results tab.
  • Questions: questions and answers. See Questions tab.
  • Intro: the welcome screen. See Intro screen.
  • Form: lead capture. See Lead capture form.
  • Integrations: the per-quiz webhook. See Webhooks.
  • Settings: quiz behavior and the Analytics section. See Timer and randomization.
  • Summary: the shortcode and iFrame code to copy. See Embed a quiz.

Design opens from the sliders icon (“Design settings”) in the top bar. Changes there are kept when you click Save in the drawer or Next in the top bar.

The top bar shows the save state (“Saving…”, “Saved just now”, “Not saved yet”). Nothing in the design drawer autosaves, so click Save when you finish.

Statuses and publishing

A quiz has one of three statuses.

StatusEffect
PublishedThe quiz renders on your site
DraftThe quiz renders nothing for visitors
ArchivedKept but hidden, and can be restored

How statuses behave:

  • Quizzes you create, including from a template, start as Published.
  • Duplicated and imported quizzes start as Draft.
  • There is no Publish button in the builder. Change status from All Quizzes, in the row menu: Publish, Set to draft, Archive or Restore.
  • A draft or archived quiz shows nothing where its shortcode is placed.

Tip: The Summary tab always says “is published and live”, even for a draft. Check the status in All Quizzes if the quiz is not showing.
