Glossary

Plain definitions of the terms Quizably uses in its admin screens and documentation, from answer and lead to webhook and UUID, with links to the right page.

This glossary lists the terms you will meet in the Quizably admin and in these docs, in alphabetical order. Each entry links to the page that explains it best.

A to C

Answer. One of the choices a visitor can pick for a question. In a personality quiz an answer can be linked to a result. In a trivia quiz it can be marked Correct and given points. See Questions tab.

Answer review. An optional, collapsible Review answers section on a trivia result screen that shows which questions the visitor got right or wrong. It is controlled by Show answer review (trivia) in the quiz’s Settings tab. See Trivia scoring.

Auto-advance. A quiz setting, Auto-advance on answer, that moves a visitor to the next question as soon as they pick an answer on a single-choice or true/false question. See Timer and randomization.

Block. An item you add in the WordPress block editor. Quizably’s block is called Advance Quiz and lets you pick a quiz from a dropdown. See Shortcodes and block reference.

Completion rate. The share of submission records that were completed. Because a record is created when a quiz loads, visitors who never pressed Start quiz count as not completing. See Analytics.

Consent text. The GDPR consent text on a quiz’s Form tab. When it is filled in, the form shows a required checkbox with that text. When it is empty, no checkbox appears. See The lead capture form.

Correct answer. In a trivia quiz, an answer marked with the Correct toggle. It adds its points to the score only when it has points set in Pts. See Trivia scoring.

D to L

Double opt-in. A setting on the Form tab. The visitor gets an email with a link and the lead stays Pending until they click it. See Double opt-in.

Drop-off. In the question analytics table, the percentage of completed submissions that did not answer a question. It shows skipped questions among finishers, not where people left the quiz. See Analytics.

Intro screen. The first screen of a quiz, with a title, an optional image and description, and a Start quiz button. See Intro screen.

Lead. A person who submitted the lead form, saved with their email and optional name. If the same email is submitted again for the same quiz, the existing lead is updated. See Leads dashboard.

Lead form. The screen that asks for a name and email. You choose Before quiz, End of quiz or Off on the Form tab. See The lead capture form.

M to R

Nonce. A one-time security token that WordPress creates and checks to confirm a request came from the expected page. Quizably prints one in the quiz markup. You do not need to manage it.

Payload. The JSON data a webhook sends: the event name, the quiz, the submission, the result, the score, the lead and a timestamp. See Webhooks.

Personality quiz. A quiz type where answers are linked to results and the result with the most matching answers wins. See Personality results.

Points. The number you enter in Pts for a correct answer in a trivia quiz. The score is the sum of the points of the correct answers a visitor picked. See Trivia scoring.

Poll. A quiz type labeled Poll / Single question. It records answers and, after the vote, shows how everyone voted with the visitor’s own pick marked. See Surveys and polls.

Question. One step of a quiz. Quizably has six question types: Single choice, Multiple choice, True / False, Dropdown, Short text and Rating. See Question types.

Question bank. A library of reusable questions you can insert into any quiz with Insert from bank. See Question bank.

Quiz. The whole item you build in Quizably, with its questions, results, form and settings. A quiz has one type, one template and a status of Draft, Published or Archived. See Creating a quiz.

Quiz type. How a quiz works out its result: Personality / Result, Trivia / Score-based, Survey / Form or Poll / Single question. See Quiz types.

Randomization. Showing questions, or the answers within a question, in a different order for each visitor. The order stays the same for one browser session. See Timer and randomization.

Rate limit. A cap on how many requests one visitor can send to the quiz endpoints: 60 per minute and 300 per hour per hashed IP address. See Data and privacy.

REST API. The set of web addresses under /wp-json/ that WordPress plugins use to send and receive data. Quizably’s quiz screens use it to save answers and get results. See Embed a quiz.

Result. The screen a visitor sees at the end of a quiz, with a title, content, an optional image and button. On a trivia quiz it is called a score band. See Results tab.

Result distribution. A per-quiz analytics chart that shows how many completed submissions landed on each result. See Analytics.

Retake. The Retake quiz button on a result screen. It starts a fresh submission. It cannot be hidden. See Results tab.

S to Z

Score range. The Min and Max points that a trivia result covers. A visitor sees the first result whose range contains their score. See Trivia scoring.

Shortcode. A short piece of text in square brackets, such as [quizably_quiz id="123"], that WordPress replaces with content. See Shortcodes and block reference.

Submission. One visit’s record of a quiz: its answers, score, result and timing. It is created when the quiz loads and marked completed when the visitor finishes. See Analytics.

Survey. A quiz type labeled Survey / Form that collects answers and shows one result screen. See Surveys and polls.

Tally. The name of the Results tab for a poll. For a personality quiz, the tally is also the count of answers linked to each result. See Personality results.

Template. The look and layout of a quiz: Classic, Minimal, Full Screen or Conversational. See Templates.

UTM parameters. Tracking values such as utm_source in a page address. Quizably saves five of them with a submission and shows them in the lead detail panel. See Leads dashboard.

UUID. A 36 character unique ID that identifies a quiz or a submission, such as a1b2c3d4-0000-4000-8000-000000000000. You can use a quiz UUID in [quizably_quiz]. See Shortcodes and block reference.

Webhook. A message that Quizably sends to a web address you choose when a lead form is submitted or a quiz is completed. See Webhooks.
